How to plan a website for your business
AFS Digital Marketing · 4 November 2026
Start with the action you want visitors to take
Before choosing colours or layouts, decide what a successful visit means. A service business may want a call or a quotation request. An online store may need a completed order. This choice shapes the navigation and the content.
List your essential pages
Begin with a home page, an explanation of your services, an about page and clear contact details. If different services answer different customer needs, give them separate pages. Add an online store only when customers need to buy directly.
Prepare the information your developer needs
Gather your business name, approved logo, contact number, address and service descriptions. Explain who your customers are and share examples of styles you like. Use original photographs where you have permission to publish them.
Agree the scope before work starts
Write down the page list, features, content responsibilities and number of review rounds. Ask how you will update content after launch, who owns the domain and what ongoing maintenance includes.
Check the complete customer journey
Before launch, test the site on a phone. Open every contact link, check any enquiry form and read the main pages for clarity. A visually attractive website still needs to help customers complete their task.
